The annual yearbook is something that the students and parents always look up to at the end of each year. DBS commemorated the academic year in a special way by distributing the yearbook online and totally free of charge. Though the physical sheets are absent this time, we are glad to have a piece of this year’s memories through the online edition of the DBS 2019-2020 Yearbook. To the tune of "Pomp and Circumstance", Doha British School (DBS) staged a grand event to honor and recognize the graduands of SY 2019-2020, except that our hall was filled with people - virtually. Held last 17 June 2020, the Virtual Graduation Ceremony was hosted live via Zoom by Kerry Rose Walton, head of Sixth Form. The event saw the graduands dressed in their graduation gowns and caps, and together with their families and friends, watched the live broadcast of the online graduation ceremony. The event was a huge success with an online attendance of almost 250. In the end, all the graduands had their moment as a tribute video was made to commemorate their graduation at the time of Covid-19. Communications to DBS parents of students in Year 7 - 13. In order to continue to support your child(ren) in their education and in preparation of their examinations (iGCSE, AS Level or IB), we have put in place a contingency plan whereby every classroom teacher has a Google Classroom to set work for your child(ren). You can find all the codes on the school website or here. If your child(ren) is (are) in year 7 to year 10, you can find the Google Classroom codes here. If your child doesn’t know how to access their Google Classroom, you can find a step-by-step guide here. Staff and students are expected to follow the Ramadan hour timetable below: Teachers will be online during these hours as per the normal timetable to answer any questions from students and give them direct feedback.
Communications to DBS parents of students in Preschool to Year 6 Due to our closure, we will be making a rapid switch from an in-person learning environment to a 100% online learning environment. From the experience of schools in East Asia, who have been compelled to do this, it should be noted this switch is highly likely to cause stress and anxiety for students, parents and staff members. Therefore, I would like to please ask for patience and calm from all stakeholders (parents, teachers and children). To begin with, the majority of work set in PS – Year 2 will be via Class Dojo and for Year 3 – 6 will be via Google Classroom. Here is a link to a video to show you how Google Classroom works. To maintain a school routine at home, here is a suggested day broken up into periods for Year 1 – Year 6. 8:15 am – 9:05 am 9:20 am – 10:10 am 10:10 am – 11:00 am 11:20 am – 12:10 pm 12:10 pm – 1:00 pm P1: Maths P2: Reading/Arabic P3: Writing/Islamic P4: Physical exercise P5: Topic/Specialist/Science For Years 3 – 6, your Google Classroom codes have been shared with you via your class teacher.
