After a week of exploring the book Little Red Riding Hood, our Reception classes thoroughly enjoyed celebrating Little Red Riding Hood Day! The
children dressed up as characters from the story and participated in a range of indoor and outdoor activities linked to the book and various curriculum areas. For example, some children developed their writing skills by making ‘Get Well Soon’ cards for Grandma, while others worked on their counting and turn-taking skills by playing a Little Red Riding Hood board game. Finally, we joined the other classes outside for a special picnic, where we shared lots of delicious food. What a fantastic day in Reception!

On Saturday, Dr Alistair Bryce-Clegg, a world-renowned international Early Years consultant, visited Doha British School Rawdat Al Hamama. Educators from schools across Qatar and the Middle East attended his Best Practice in the Early Years conference as part of his world tour. Teachers and teaching assistants gained invaluable insights from his inspiring training, which incorporated the latest research into early childhood development and education. The event brought together nearly 300 educational professionals and concluded with a tour of the campus’s outstanding EYFS provision.

Our Year 5 boys placed 3rd (bronze medal) overall among 13 teams, while our Year 6 boys achieved an impressive 4th place, narrowly missing out on a
bronze medal as well. Both teams recently competed in the QPPSSA North League Football Tournament—one of the most anticipated events of the year—with over 155 players and parents in attendance. We were honoured to host this exciting tournament at Lusail Sports Stadium.

Touch of Pink Day: Raising Awareness with a Splash of Colour Wear It Pink Day is more than just a splash of colour; it’s a global initiative that highlights breast cancer awareness. This day encourages individuals everywhere to wear pink as a show of support, bringing together communities, businesses, and schools in a shared mission to raise essential funds for research and patient care. Every pink garment, ribbon, or accessory worn symbolises solidarity with those affected by breast cancer, emphasising the crucial importance of early detection and treatment. Wear It Pink Day serves as a powerful reminder that together, we can make a difference and offer hope to those impacted by this illness.

Doha British School was honoured to participate in the Ministry of Education and Higher Education’s first ‘Unity Conference’, on inclusivity for private schools in Qatar. Mr. Simon Berry, the Executive Principal for Doha British Schools provided one of the keynote presentations on Day 2; “Implementing Inclusive Education”. Mr. Alex Whitehead, the Assistant Head teacher for Learning Support at the DBS Rawdat Al Hamama campus presented a workshop on “Autism and the Inclusion of all Students”, as well as participated in the panel discussion on “Building Consistency to Maximise Impact for all Learners”. DBS joins a select number of private schools in Qatar, who are working with the MoEHE on a comprehensive framework for inclusivity.

Last week, DBS RH hosted a variety of insightful activities as part of our Mental Health Week. The activities were led by Ms Mariam, our DBS Wellbeing Counsellor. Among them, Ms Mariam introduced Chalk Messages, an activity encouraging creativity and positivity. This allowed students to express themselves and spread uplifting messages. Yoga was also offered, which helps reduce stress, improve focus, and promote emotional regulation, making it ideal for fostering resilience and a sense of calm. Another activity was Mindful Colouring, an effective practice that encourages mindfulness by helping students concentrate on the present moment, reducing anxiety, and improving mood—offering a soothing break from academic pressures. Lastly, Board Games were introduced as a way to build social connections and enhance cognitive skills. This activity encouraged teamwork, communication, and problem-solving in a fun and engaging environment.

Congratulations to our U16 Boys’ Volleyball team for securing third place!
The team faced off against Doha College in a closely contested semi-final but unfortunately, lost. However, they showed great resilience by bouncing back to claim victory in the third-place match against Qatar International School, earning well-deserved bronze medals. The tournament was held at Al Khor International School on Monday, 7th October.
